“The passing of José Maneiras in the early hours of Tuesday morning, at the age of 90, leaves a significant void in the architectural culture of the ‘Global South’. It also provides an opportunity to initiate a critical debate on the final years of Portuguese colonialism in this Asian region, focusing on the influence of modernist architects on the development of densely populated, contemporary Asian territories.
